While Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards highlight the best of the past year, they have also come to showcase what’s on the horizon. Here are some of the highlight reveals of last night’s show.
Windblown
As soon as the first adorable creature in this trailer lost their head in a balloon of blood, you just knew that this was Motion Twin cooking up something good. This 3D sibling to Dead Cells is a multiplayer roguelike where you’ll be throwing yourself against mounting odds and learning new skills from fallen warriors.
Harmonium: The Musical
The Odd Gentlemen, who brought you The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom and King’s Quest, revealed their next title - a musical adventure starring Melody Macato, a 10-year-old deaf percussionist. Utilizing many different writers, artists, and developers from the deaf community, this game seems to be a mash-up to keep an eye on!
Exodus
None other than Matthew McConaughey strutted out onto the stage to unveil a sci-fi odyssey that he couldn’t help but compare to his film Interstellar. Made by Blur Studio, this third-person action-adventure game promises to be a time-traveling romp through the far reaches of space.
God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla
The appearance of Kratos caused the audience to erupt in cheers, and for good reason. The Santa Monica Studios title nabbed six awards at last year’s show, and now they’re adding a free rogue-like DLC that drops next week. Catch it on December 12th and collect those glorious deaths to escape Valhalla!
No Rest for the Wicked
From the creators of Ori and the Blind Forest comes a stylish fantasy that looks both epic and emotional. Called an “incredibly violent action RPG,” Moon Studios has put together something really special in their reveal.
SEGA Multi-Reveal
In a shocking twist, Sega used a simple trailer to showcase that they’re currently developing new titles from old fan-favorite franchises: Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Crazy Taxi, and more. What’s old is new again!
Lost Records: Bloom & Rage
From the creators of Life is Strange comes a new narrative that seems to span the past and present of a group of young women. The game will follow an adventure in the magical summer of 1995 that forges bonds between four friends before skipping to 27 years later to find out why they haven’t spoken since. Ever wondered how you’d fare on Isla Nublar after the events of the first Jurassic Park movie? Now you can! Originally an action-adventure game being developed by Savage Entertainment in the early 2000s, it is now a fully-fledged survival horror experience being made by Saber Interactive. You’ll step into the shoes of Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist, in this first-person human-versus-dinosaur experience. Hold on to your butts!
Tales of Kenzera: ZAU
Revealed by actor Abubakar Salim (Assassin’s Creed: Origins) after giving a quick shoutout to Golden Sun, this 2D Metroidvania was created as a way for Salim to work through the grief of losing his father. You’ll play a young shaman named Zau who enters a dangerous bargain with the God of Death to get his Baba back from a realm of darkness.
Blade
From the studio that brought you Dishonored comes a surprise: the Daywalker in Paris. That’s right, in this third-person action-adventure game, you’ll take control of Eric Brooks, A.K.A. Blade, and use your vampiric powers to take down blood-suckers that have infested France.
Light No Fire
Sean Murray took the stage to say “all is well” in No Man’s Sky, then nervously dropped the news that Hello Games has been developing a brand new game for the last five years. An entire world at true scale, the goal was to create a single planet with the same diversity as their previous, galaxy-spanning adventure.
Monster Hunter Wilds
Showcasing a sprawling fantasy ride on both land and air, this short teaser promised a new Monster Hunter in 2025. See you then!
