Pete Hines is saying goodbye to Bethesda after 24 years at the company, writing on Twitter that he is “retiring and will begin an exciting new chapter of my life and exploring interests and passions, donating my time where I can, and taking more time to enjoy life.”
Hines had been with Bethesda since 1999, joining as the Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications. He became a well-known presence at events for the company, often appearing at E3, QuakeCon, gamescom, and other major events. Last year, Hines was promoted to Head of Publishing.
Replies to Hines’ post on Twitter are filled with congratulatory notes with well-wishes from game developers, journalists, and community members alike. The Bethesda Twitter account, however, best summed up everyone’s responses (and paid tribute to Hines’ fake doctor’s notes he’d post when Bethesda would release a new game):
We shared some of our favorite moments with Hines in our Discord server after the news this morning and this moment with VICE News came to mind for many of us. We’re sad to see Pete go, but we wish him the best in his next chapter!
