Overwatch 2 showcases new tank hero at BlizzCon
The newest tank hero was announced at BlizzCon 2023 on Friday, Nov. 3. The hero, named Mauga, will make his official debut in Season Eight. Mauga is a Samoan name meaning “mountain.”
Mauga is equipped with two chain guns, affectionately named Gunny and Cha-Cha.
The Overwatch Wiki says Mauga is a solider of Talon’s Heavy Assault and an old friend of Baptiste, a support hero who was released in 2019. The storyline that is currently available says he looked for Baptiste to convince him to help on a mission to find Sainclair, another Talon member and medicine supplier.
According to the Wiki, Mauga was intended to be Hero 31, but developers said the kit didn’t suit Mauga’s personality and created Sigma instead. In 2019, it was said the team still intended to make Mauga a playable hero, and that they had “big plans” for him.
More new things coming to Overwatch 2 in the future are a new game mode, a new map, a new damage hero and a new support hero. More details on those reveals will come on Saturday during the “What’s Next” panel at 1:30 p.m. PT.
