Bend Time and Change the Future in Clockwork Revolution
inXile Entertainment Reveals its Steampunk RPG
Welcome to Avalon! Ruled by a mysterious queen with gearforged soldiers marching in the streets, this metropolis is a haven for the rich and corrupt upper crust. To make matters worse, the ruling class has access to time travel technology, allowing them to quell any rebellion before it starts. But that all changes when a member of the underworld gets their hands on a smaller version of this device as well. This is Clockwork Revolution, a new first person shooter role playing game (FPS RPG) from inXile Entertainment.
The opening few minutes of the trailer show off what is surely the opening of the game, with a foppish noble in a top hat, cane, and mechanical arm complaining to a robotic constable that he has been “burgled.” When asked to describe the perpetrator, it launches into a deep character creator for “Morgan Vanette” with a bevy of options both cosmetic and mechanical. You can customize their body and gender to suit your aesthetic desires and backgrounds, traits, and attributes to fit your playstyle.
After a brief flashback to the aforementioned heist and the fully-voiced dialogue system, the trailer shifts into showing scenes from the beautifully crafted environments of “The Tangle.” The world is bright and vibrant, and seems to be incredibly detailed with an industrial city filled with two distinct classes - the upper and the lower. It even seems to promise tensions between the organic residents of Avalon and the mechanical ones.
The last few minutes of the trailer feature gameplay, which boasts fast-paced first-person action with smooth gunplay. It even promises use of a time travel mechanic, which allows you to rewind time locally to restore some destroyed cover or universally and undo an accidental death. There’s even a glimpse of a weapon crafting system which looks incredibly detailed and customizable.
In the closing moments of the trailer, the narrator discusses the time travel mechanic and how you’ll be able to use your time travel device to alter the timeline until your revolution is successful. And it sounds like we’ll need it with everything we’re up against in this highly anticipated first person role playing shooter.
