5 Achievements/Trophies I'd Add to Games
While I don’t go out of my way to 100% a game anymore, I still try to get as many trophies or achievements as I can on a playthrough. There have been numerous times, while I am avoiding the outside world and its many shortcomings, that I have noticed something that seems like it would be a great addition to a game’s list that for some reason just isn’t. Whether I find it humorous or not that the player is required to put in a ton of effort to get it, these are just some of the games I have come up with my fun achievements.
Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name
Achievement: Tissue Paper Please
Out of the gate whoever told me this game is only ten hours long can get these hands, because I am nine hours deep and I just hit chapter three. Part of that is on me, once Akame, the game’s resident protector of the homeless and purveyor of information, graced my screen I was going to do whatever that woman told me.
Akame often gives Kiryu tasks to do around the city to build up her information network while helping the citizens in some way. A lot of these also pop up requiring the player to talk to random citizens as the game progresses with the heftier missions coming directly from Akame. One of the random missions that can pop up is to bring tissue paper to unfortunate souls trapped in public bathroom stalls with no way to wipe away the filth.
The goal of this achievement would be to bring it to a specific amount of people. The game lets you hold 99 tissues so they may as well give the player another reason to pass them out.
The Suffering: Ties That Bind
Achievement: Toys That Blind
I feel betrayed by the people in my life. At no point in my thirty-year adventure on this rock, no one brought up this magnificent horror game from the PlayStation 2. The monster design is immaculate, the atmosphere is nearly perfect, and the combat is enjoyable and mostly holds up. The game isn’t perfect but for something that came out in 2005, it was a surprisingly decent time.
I advocate for this game and its predecessor to be remade for modern systems. I think it would bring something fresh to the genre. Now one of the things you can do in combat is throw flashbangs and stun a fair amount of the enemies you come across. I think having to do that a certain number of times or to every enemy type would be a great trophy or achievement to add to the game if it ever came back from the dead.
Assassin’s Creed: Mirage
Achievement: Cat Dad of Baghdad
Assassin’s Creed: Mirage is a great game and is the first game in the franchise I felt compelled to finish since Assassin’s Creed 3 on the Xbox 360. That doesn’t mean I didn’t play the other games in the franchise, quite the contrary. I own them all, and except Valhalla, I have played a bit of each one. They weren’t terrible or anything but for one reason or another, I just set them down.
My favorite thing about Assassin’s Creed: Mirage was being able to pet cats pretty much any time I wanted to. I tried to pet every cat I could find, even if the game wouldn’t let me. While you do get something for petting a cat at first I do think another one where you pet a much higher amount of cats would be a great thing to have for Basim on his quest. Dude is haunted by a Jinni the least he could do is take some time to chill out with cats.
Roboquest
Achievement: Speed Runner Enthusiast
This game dominated my life for a solid month. The blend of fantastic gameplay and perfect Roguelike make for a super fulfilling experience that I can not recommend enough. The more I played it the faster I got at finishing the game. My fastest playthrough ended up being around the 20-minute mark and I know if I put the time in I would have been even faster.
This achievement would require the player to beat the game in about fifteen minutes. With the amount of buffs that the game grants the player as they unlock more things, certain builds could pull this off and I would love to try to get it.
Silent Hill 3
Achievement: It is bread
Silent Hill 3 is my favorite game in the franchise. It was so well put together that I got excited by the recent rumors of Konami wanting to port all the games to the current generations of consoles. I am also apparently in the minority of being excited for the Silent Hill 2 remake. I think it looks decent enough but I digress.
In Silent Hill 3 protagonist Heather spends time walking around a decrepit mall. At that mall, you can come across a small bakery. Nothing is in it if you go inside, just the discarded remnants of an abandoned store. Approaching a certain table in the bakery Heather sees a bowl of bread on the table. Interacting with the bowl prompts text to pop on screen that simply reads “It’s bread.” The Internet has memed this scene and I genuinely want a shirt with that screenshot on it. If the remakes/ports are true it would be a fun little nod for Konami to include it. I chuckle at it every time.
Down the road I would like to work on another game and hopefully be a part of the team that makes the game’s achievement list. If you have anything you have noticed in video games that would make a great achievement please let us know in the comments below.
Lastly, it’s rough out there so be kind to yourself and remember to do something fun for yourself.
